There’s something magical about spring in Edmonton. After months of winter, the city finally begins to wake up again — the trees turn green, the evenings stretch longer, and for a brief moment, the cherry blossoms transform the city into a pastel fairytale.

This engagement session almost didn’t happen.
At the beginning of the day, a huge rainstorm rolled in and I honestly thought this would end up being a digital-only session. As a hybrid wedding photographer, I photograph with both film and digital depending on the conditions, and film can be incredibly particular about light. If it’s too dark, too overcast, or lacking enough contrast, digital cameras often perform much better.
But because hair and makeup had already been booked, we decided to take our chances and move forward with the session anyway.
And somehow, the weather shifted perfectly in our favor.
As soon as we arrived, the rain stopped, the clouds opened, and the sun came out in the most beautiful way. One unexpected perk of the storm? The park was completely empty. We had the entire space to ourselves, which made the session feel peaceful and intimate.
The conditions became absolutely perfect for film photography, and this entire engagement session was photographed exclusively on medium format film.

While I’m a hybrid shooter and absolutely love the flexibility of digital photography, analog film photography will always have my heart.
My go-to film stock is Kodak Portra 400 because of the way it renders light, skin tones, and color. It handles soft evening light beautifully and creates images that feel timeless and emotional rather than overly polished.
Film has a way of turning ordinary moments into artwork.
The tones feel painterly. The grain adds texture and grit. The softness creates nostalgia. Every frame feels organic, bespoke, and deeply romantic in a way that digital simply cannot fully replicate.
For this session especially, the combination of spring blooms, soft post-rain light, and medium format film created images that feel like a pastel dream. Everything looked soft, airy, and almost ethereal.

Spring engagement sessions in Edmonton are easily some of my favorite sessions of the entire year.
There’s such a sense of renewal during this season. After a long winter, the city suddenly feels alive again. The parks begin blooming with pink blossoms, the warm evenings return, and there’s an excitement in the air that feels contagious.
Cherry blossom season in Edmonton is incredibly short, which makes it even more special. For just a small window of time, the city transforms into a romantic fairytale landscape filled with soft pink blooms and glowing evening light.
For couples wanting engagement photos that feel elegant, editorial, romantic, and artistic, spring is honestly one of the best times to plan a session.

If you’re searching for an Edmonton luxury wedding photographer who photographs with both film and digital, I would love to document your story in a way that feels timeless, artistic, and authentic to you.
Whether it’s a cherry blossom engagement session, an intimate wedding day, or a destination celebration, my goal is always to create imagery that feels emotional, refined, and full of life — photographs that will still feel beautiful decades from now.
And honestly, sessions like this are exactly why I fell in love with film photography in the first place.
Soft light. Romantic tones. Nostalgia. Texture. Emotion.
A perfect spring evening captured on medium format film.
