Diana and Sawyer met in University- but neither one of them remember exactly when or how. They were both on the student council for their student association, but they didn’t actually start dating during university! The reconnected a few years later when Sawyer and a friend of Diana’s went to her house for dinner. They had a great evening and a few weeks later Sawyer asked Diana’s friend for her number. They’ve been together since 2015! Sawyer proposed while they were travelling in Italy. They had picked the perfect ring together when they were in Florence- there is a jewelry district on Ponte Vecchio, a bridge over the Arno River. Sawyer proposed in a beautiful little costal town, Cetara. They woke up early to watch the sunrise over the ocean, after the sunrise Sawyer asked Diana to marry him, and Diana is pretty sure she said “thank you!” Haha! Diana describes Sawyer as kind, very funny and witty, intelligent, inclusive and a problem solver. Sawyer describes Diana as caring, loyal, determined, loving and funny.
Diana and Sawyer reached out to me in July regarding their September wedding. They were originally planning a November wedding with all of their family and friends but due to COVID decided to downsize and host a backyard wedding with their immediate families. It turns out, Sawyer knows one of my good friends Sarah- so she put in a good word for me (thank you Sarah!) and I was able to work with this amazing couple. Diana and Sawyers wedding was beautiful, intimate, and full of so much genuine love. Their day started with a first look and I think Sawyer’s reaction says it all. The SWEETEST! Their backyard wasn’t large enough to accommodate family photos so we had their family join us after the first look for portraits. Diana had originally really wanted her family to see her for the first time coming down the aisle- since that was no longer the plan she and Sawyer still wanted a special moment to greet their family. So! We ended up doing a “first look” with their families and it was SO special. Then we headed back to Sawyer’s parents house for the ceremony. Sawyer’s sister, Monique, married them and it was so sweet- Monique and Sawyer are really close so it really made the ceremony feel so personal. Since they had to downsize their wedding, they still found a way to celebrate with friends! They had a a “drive by” reception and it was SO much fun! Then they shared their first dance on the back patio, enjoyed a meal catered by MEAT – a delicious smokehouse in Edmonton. Their family shared the most heartfelt, touching, and hilarious speeches. I left this wedding in tears. I felt so silly for crying as I said goodbye BUT the love that Diana and Sawyer share is so special. It was tangible. Their families radiate such warmth and kindness… I left this wedding with my “cup filled.” It was such an honor to celebrate this day with you two. Thank you so much for having me. I hope you love your photos!
